Potassium is not a structural component of tissues, but it is the most abundant cation inside plant cells and regulates essential processes. It activates numerous enzymes involved in the synthesis of sugars and proteins and, above all, governs the transport of these sugars through the phloem from the leaves to the fruit. When the crop enters the fruit-setting and fruit-filling stages, the demand for potassium skyrockets because it is the nutrient that drives fruit filling; if it is in short supply at that time, the fruit loses size and sweetness even if the rest of the fertilization is correct.

Potassium also plays a crucial and often little-known role: it is the primary regulator of a plant’s resistance to stress. By controlling the opening and closing of the stomata, it regulates water balance, so that a plant well-nourished with potassium loses less water and better tolerates drought and extreme temperatures, both hot and cold. That same osmotic control helps the plant cope with soils or water containing excess salts, where water absorption is impaired (saline stress). And since potassium plays a role in tissue firmness and internal cellular balance, the plant is also better equipped to withstand biotic stress. Recommended Applications and Uses

Fruit set and fruit enlargement. This is its primary use. During the fruit-filling stage, the fruit has a high demand for potassium to accumulate sugars and grow in size; providing extra potassium at this stage is what results in larger, sweeter, and more vibrantly colored fruit in the orchard.

Pre-flowering and flowering. Adding potassium at the start of flowering prepares the plant for more uniform fruit set and a better distribution of reserves, so that more flowers set and do so more evenly.

Hot summers and irregular watering. In conditions of intense heat or when watering is not consistent, potassium supplementation helps the plant regulate water loss and maintain fruit production despite stress, a very common problem in seasonal vegetable gardens.

Soils or water with a tendency toward salinity. Where irrigation water or the soil accumulates salts, a healthy potassium status improves the plant’s ability to continue absorbing water and nutrients, thereby alleviating some of the salt stress.

Directions for use and dosage

Flower to Fruit is diluted in water and applied in two ways, depending on the desired result: added to irrigation water for sustained root uptake, or applied as a foliar spray for a faster response. For foliar application, it is best to treat the plants first thing in the morning or late in the evening, avoiding the hottest part of the day and direct sunlight on the leaves, and be sure to thoroughly wet the plant.

General dosage: 10 ml per liter of water for irrigation applications and 5 ml per liter of water for foliar applications. Apply during the pre-flowering, fruit-setting, and fruit-filling stages, adjusting the frequency to the needs of each crop and incorporating the application into the regular fertilization schedule.
